The science is clear...
your lenses shouldn't be!
All light is naturally balanced across a full spectrum in nature, however man-made sources of modern lighting and LED screen devices emit intense, unbalanced doses of a “fake” blue light spike on our eyes.
This un-natural SPIKE disrupts our health, and importantly--our natural Circadian Rhythm which allows our bodies to SLEEP and heal.
This can lead to damaging effects on our overall health and wellness.
Protecting your eyes is important but most blue light blocking glasses are made with near-clear lenses that fail to block the full blue light spike.
More Blue Light = Less Melatonin
Melatonin, a powerful antioxidant, plays many important roles in the body from regulating sleep to reducing inflammation and supporting the immune system. Artificial blue light disrupts our body’s natural production of melatonin at night by up to 60%. This leads to sleep disruption and mitochondrial damage.
Melatonin Suppression and Mitochondrial Repair
Light enters the eye and stimulates the retina, turning it into an electrochemical signal that travels across our body down a multi-synaptic neural circuit including to the circadian-pacemaker the pineal gland which secretes a single hormone—melatonin.
A primary function of melatonin is repairing mitochondrial DNA. The damaging blue light spike measured at 455nm suppresses melatonin production. The lack of repair from this suppression leads to an accelerated accumulation of mitochondrial DNA mutations, known as “herteroplasmy.”
As mitochondrial DNA mutations increase, our body systems begin to lack the energy necessary to carry out their functions, leading to many modern chronic diseases.
The wavelength makes a difference
Visible light travels in waves. Our eyes can see wavelengths of light between approx. 400-750 nanometers (nm). Sunlight provides a broad, gentle wave of light to our eyes and can be healing to us and our daily circadian rhythm.
Modern LED lighting and screen devices we surround ourselves with however emit a large spike of blue light at 455nm. This damaging wavelength has been found to have the highest impact on melatonin suppression.
Clear lenses may only filter or block from 400nm - 420nm but they provide no protection in the most damaging range of 440nm - 455nm, you need a yellow lens to block blue.
Complete Protection
Leading clear lens
Leading clear and near clear lenses have little to no effect on the light spectrum above 420nm where it matters most. They simply do not block the light we most need protection from when using screens and devices.
Yellow day lens
Our daytime lenses block 100% of damaging artificial Blue Light at 455nm as measured across the light spectrum. Our night time red lenses expand that blue light blocking coverage up to 550nm.
Patented, Melanin-Infused Lenses
Our hair, skin and eyes contain an insoluble pigment, Melanin - which provides your body its MOST POWERFUL PROTECTION against UV and visible light, and the way it is absorbed. Our bodies use Melanin to naturally take-in light evenly and smoothly over a balanced, broad spectral range of visible light, from 380nm to 700nm.
Melanin naturally absorbs the higher energy light (UV, violet, blue) MORE STRONGLY than the lower energy light (yellow, orange red) to maintain a balance in our bodies (Blue is energizing, Red is healing, for example).
Melanin also provides near OPTIMUM PROTECTION to the retina by FILTERING the different colors of the visible light spectrum in proportion to their ability to damage tissue of the retina. More damaging = More Melanin Protection.
We utilize a Patented Process using Melanin pigments built directly into the GILDED lenses. These lenses help block + protect your eyes BETTER, while allowing you to see all the other colors more clearly.
Compared to other lenses that filter the same amount of light using other means of filtration, melanin lens wearers are able to more accurately differentiate between color hues and scored better on the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue test (a measure for color-blindness) as this lens technology closely mimics that of our eyes natural filtration.
